The Work that Reconnects

Workshops based on the work of Joanna Macy, as described in her book "Coming back to Life". Find your energy to bring about social or environmental change, while connecting with others and enjoying time out in nature. Next workshops

Are your meetings quite hard-going? Would you like some help keeping them on track? I can come and facilitate meetings or events, or provide advice on how to make them more productive.

Sometimes it's important to mark transitions in our lives. We can work together to create a ceremony to mark the change, to help you and others move forward to new beginnings.

Events coming up

Saturday 29 - Sunday 30 April: Building community - a weekend workshop

Facilitated by Anna McIvor and Katherine Dixon

During this weekend workshop on "Building Community", we'll explore what it means to build community, how to go about it, what skills we need and what experience we each already bring. The workshop will be mostly experiential, as we explore our own experiences of being in community, what we've learnt, and start to think about what communities we'd like to build in future. We'll spend some time looking at what challenges us about being in community, and how we can develop the skills that we need to face those challenges. We'll also spend time out in nature, learning from the natural communities which are all around us.

We'll work together as a community to make our meals, build a fire, and do the other tasks which are necessary over the weekend. And on Saturday evening we'll celebrate community with a big meal and fire.

Dates and times: Saturday 29 and 30 April, 9:30am to 5:30pm, with a community celebration on Saturday evening (going on until 10ish, but obviously it is optional how late you choose to stay)

Location: Cambridge Sustainability Centre, Fen End Farm, Oxholme Drove, Smithy Fen, Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, CB24 8UP (more info here, scroll down this page for directions and map here). It is possible to cycle or take the bus and walk (it takes approx 25 minutes to walk to the farm from the Citi 8 bus stop at the far end of Cottenham). There is parking for vehicles on-site.

Booking: Please book using the form below, sending your name, phone number, address, whether you'd like to camp on Saturday night, and any dietary requirements or other needs. We will send details about how to pay.

Cost: This workshop is being offered on a voluntary basis, with a suggested donation of £40-50 to cover our costs.

Meals: All meals will be vegetarian, and the weekend will be alcohol and drug free.

Staying on site: It is possible to camp on-site either on Saturday night or from Friday to Monday (it's a bank holiday weekend). To stay in a small tent on Saturday night (cost £10), please just include this in your booking e-mail and we will get back to you to confirm this (please note that camping spaces are almost booked up). If you'd like to take advantage of the glamping options (yurt/gypsy wagon/bell tent), please book via the Fen End Farm web-site. These are only available Friday to Monday, i.e. 3 nights minimum stay.

Bringing your family: If you'd like to come with your family, they will be welcome; while you attend the workshop sessions, the rest of your family can explore the surrounding area, and then they can join us at mealtimes and for the celebration on Saturday night (unfortunately it will not be possible to have children with us during the workshop sessions).
